Dr. Jacqueline Heller is a psychoanalyst and a physician with board certification in psychiatry and neurology. Over her nearly forty-year career, she maintained a psychiatry practice, taught and supervised psychiatrists in training, and facilitated their process groups. Dr. Heller has been an active member of the clinical faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine, Department of Biobehavioral Sciences, UCLA, since 1989. She volunteered for psychiatric services at the Venice Family Clinic for many years. She is a faculty member at the New Center for Psychoanalysis, where she taught conflict theory, psychopathology, adolescence, and Freudian theory classes. She is certified by the Center for Reflective Parenting, has led parenting groups, and introduced the program to private schools. Dr. Heller retired in 2019. She recently published a book: Yesterday Never Sleeps: How Integrating Life's Current and Past Connections Improves Our Well-Being, a work that is part clinical, academic, and memoir. The narrative is informed by her experience as a psychiatrist and as a child of two Holocaust survivors. The book is an Amazon Bestseller in the following categories. Dr Heller is a guest speaker on many podcasts and syndicated radio broadcasts. Dr. Heller received a BA in Biology from NYU, an MS in Basic Medical Science from NYU and an MD from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her psychiatry internship and residency were at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Her psychoanalytic training was at the New Center for Psychoanalysis, formerly known as the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. Doctor Heller’s interests include her family, reading, Tai Chi, Scrabble, travel, and tinkering; she holds three US patents, including one utility patent for a multipurpose clasp. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband.
